FUN FACTS
World’s First and Oldest Buses
Supposedly Blaise Pascal invented the first public bus in 1662. It makes sense when you consider that he is also credited with wearing the first (pocket) watch. Maybe he wanted to make sure that his horse-drawn “buses” kept their schedule and regular route. Not surprisingly he also equipped these buses with a fare system
World's Largest Bus
In 2007, the "world 's largest" bus made its appearance. The Chinese manufactured coach is 82 feet long (25-meters) and can transport 300 passengers. Is it possible that people in the front of the bus could be on time while the people in the back could be late to their destination?
Most Expensive Bus Stop
Anchorage Alaska is trying desperately to spend $1.5 million on a bus stop. Director of Public Transportation Tom Wilson has all that money for a new and improved bus stop outside the Anchorage Museum of History and Art due to because the man voted the nation’s most wasteful legislator. Republican Sen. Ted Stevens “Uncle Ted” has been ranked has ranked Stevens No. 1 every year since Citizens Against Government Waste began listing lawmakers ' abilities to bring the bacon to their home states in 2000. In 2005, Stevens brought home more than $645 million, or $984.85 for each Alaskan, the group says.
"It is going to be a showpiece stop," Wilson said. Planned heated sidewalks and other niceties will raise the expenditures to hundreds of times the cost of other stations.
